200 Years Ago

■Brass Foundry! All kinds of brass castings done at the shortest notice. Cash paid for old brass and copper. Wanted, as an apprentice at the above business, an active lad 16 or 17 years of age. – Phelps & Strong, Northampton.

■Early peas! James Dickinson, of Northampton, has just received from Coos, and offers for sale, a quantity of June peas, warranted to cook well and free from bugs. Also, marrowfat, green, and common peas. Also, rum, brandy, gin, old spirits, wines and codfish.

100 Years Ago

■Vice President Coolidge attended a committee meeting of the board of trustees of Amherst College held at the Kimball Hotel in Springfield last night.

■It has been found necessary to cancel the matinee engagement of “To the Ladies,” with Helen Hayes at the Academy of Music on Monday afternoon. The company’s baggage could not be delivered in time for the afternoon performance.

50 Years Ago

■The former Newberry building on Main Street, vacant since last July, may become the new home of the Nonotuck Savings Bank. William Kimball, president of Nonotuck Savings, said today that the bank’s 17-member board of trustees had obtained an option to purchase the property located at 171 Main St. The building is 16 years old.

■Northampton City Council last night approved several city department annual reports, including a police report recommending traffic flow improvements on King Street, improved street lighting, and calling for expansion into the quarters now occupied by the Registry of Motor Vehicles on Center Street.
