■Chief Admitting Officer Edith H. Lamica, R.N., of Hadley, is now the veteran employee of the Cooley Dickinson Hospital in terms of service. Since graduation from the CDH School of Nursing in 1936, she has been employed at the hospital, and since 1947 as admitting officer. Last week, she received a 35-year service pin at the annual awards ceremony.

■The Northampton High School musical production of “Guys and Dolls” is scheduled to open tonight in the Fayette-Congdon Auditorium. Ellen O’Donnell will appear as Sarah Brown in this production. The comic leads are played by seniors Andy Dewitz as Nathan Detroit, Carole Brassard as Miss Adelaide, and Barry Fogel as Sky Masterson.

■The first draft of a five-year technology plan for Northampton schools calls for one computer for every four students and one for every teacher. The city schools’ technology specialist Robert A. Hanna presented the plan to members of the districtwide technology committee this week.

■After a three-year battle over cigarette smoking at Packards in defiance of a city rule, its owner and Northampton health officials are close to an agreement that could keep ashtrays at the bar. The agreement would allow smoking to continue in the Masonic Street establishment, except in its dining areas.

■Some 100,000 people in three counties, including a majority of the communities in Hampshire County, may soon see their electricity bills drop. The Hampshire Council of Governments is moving ahead with plans for a municipal aggregation program through which it expects to band together residents and small businesses in more than 30 communities in the hunt for lower electricity costs.

■When Brookfield Farm in Amherst became one of the first farms in the country to adopt the Community Supported Agriculture model 25 years ago, not many people knew what the acronym “CSA” stood for. This year, Pioneer Valley CSAs are expected to feed 40,000 people. The number of farms using the business model has tripled in the last five years, according to an area agricultural advocacy organization.
