Weekend Planner

Thursday, August 10, 2017

After a six-month run at the Smith College Museum of Art — and previous showings at two other U.S. museums — “The Villas of Oplontis Near Pompeii” exhibit will close on Sunday and the rare ancient Roman artifacts comprising it return to Italy.

Smith is offering a final chance to see the show for free as part of its Free Fun Friday program Aug. 11, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Along with family-friendly, self-guided materials and new art activity cards for young visitors, the open house will also feature the Holyoke Hummus (“Great Garbanzo”) Food Truck (11 a.m. to 2 p.m., cash only) and Crooked Stick Pops (starting at 4 p.m.), along with regular Second Friday hands-on art-making activities (“Inspired by ancient times, use nature’s shadows to tell time by constructing your own sundial.” From 4 to 7 p.m.).

The complete schedule is available at smith.edu/artmuseum.
