FLORENCE – The unattended death in the Elks Lodge parking lot Thursday was that of a Florence man in his 30s, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

Northampton Police and Massachusetts State Police are still investigating the man’s death, said Mary Carey, a DA spokeswoman.

The man was discovered Thursday morning near the Northampton Elks Lodge No. 997, located at 17 Spring St. A post on the Elks lodge Facebook page described the man’s death as a “tragic incident.” The property was closed off to normal business for much of the day.

The state medical examiner will determine the man’s cause of death, the DA’s office said.

This is a developing story.
