NORTHAMPTON – A carbon monoxide leak at Fresenius Kidney Care on Conz Street prompted the evacuation of more than a dozen people at the dialysis center Friday morning, according to the Northampton Fire Department.

No one was injured or sickened by the leak, which was reported to the Fire Department at around 9:40 a.m., Northampton Fire Capt. Larry Therrien said.

“We metered the building and we found some high levels of CO,” Therrien said.

Therrien said about a dozen patients and a half dozen staff evacuated the building after a carbon monoxide detector activated. People were able to re-enter the building after the CO levels went down.

Columbia Gas and a mechanical contractor were called to the scene to investigate and the carbon monoxide leak was traced to a hot water heater that is being replaced, according to the dialysis center.
