Locally, the Hampshire Regional YMCA will be offering a series of free Safety Around Water classes to the entire community the week of June 4. Preschool sessions (ages 3-5) involve both child and caregiver, while youth sessions (ages 6+) do not require a caregiver to be in the water. Each 45-minute lesson is designed to build water safety intelligence, address specific safety topics and reinforce skills through fun activities.

Sessions will be offered at the Y on Monday, June 4 at 10:00 am (preschool only); Tuesday, June 5 at 3:00 pm (preschool and youth); Wednesday, June 6 at 2:00 pm (preschool only); and Thursday, June 7 at 5:30 pm (youth only). Registration is required at the Y Welcome Center. The Y can be reached at (413)584-7086.

With summer approaching quickly, representatives from the Hampshire Regional YMCA’s Aquatics Department will also be visiting the Y ‘s after school care programs at Jackson Street, Ryan Road and Bridge Street Elementary Schools in Northampton to present important water safety tips.
