GREENFIELD — Meaghan Burns, a South Deerfield resident who was shot to death in Virginia, will have a police escort Tuesday to her hometown from Bradley International Airport.

Deerfield, Massachusetts State and Greenfield Police will accompany the transport, entering South Deerfield on South Main Street before proceeding to the Town Common, and then to Wrisley Funeral Home on Sugarloaf Street. The escort is expected to arrive 8 p.m. in Deerfield, pending the prompt arrival of the 6:45 p.m. flight, according to a statement by the Deerfield Police Department.

People are asked to line the streets in Deerfield to show their support for Burns, 23, who was an active-duty U.S. Navy corpsman, and her family.

Burns was one of three Navy corpsmen killed at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Portsmouth, Va., on May 4 in what police are calling a double homicide and suicide.
