I write to express appreciation for the excellent early voting system devised by Northampton City Clerk Pam Powers and her staff.

Her system included clipboards and pens disinfected after each use, tape to seal ballot-filled envelopes, so that no saliva was involved, plexiglass barriers between voter and poll workers, separate entrance and exit doors, and a team dedicated to cleaning each booth after voters completed their ballots.

Everyone was masked. If you intend to vote early, which I highly recommend, bring your mask. I have been fortunate enough to serve at the polls for some years. As a member of the COVID-vulnerable population, I can’t help this year. I am grateful to those who have stepped up, and especially to Ms. Powers who made this process easy, safe and secure.
