Hampshire Regional junior Michael Baldwin won four matches Saturday to place third at 160 pounds at the State Division 3 Wrestling Tournament in Wakefield.

“I fought my way back,” Baldwin said. “I won a couple tough matches against good kids.”

Baldwin opened the day with a pin of Taconic’s Mike Puskey in 4 minutes, 41 seconds. Baldwin then beat Tyreece Cherival, of Hampden Charter, 1-0, and Joao Valdevino, of Wakefield, 7-4, to reach the third-place match.

Valdevino led 2-0 and 4-2 entering the third period. Baldwin closed with an escape, a takedown and a nearfall to win the match.

“He was a tough match,” Baldwin said of Valdevino. “He was beating me the whole time. He tried to take me over but I got him on his back.”

Baldwin closed with a 4-1 win over Mike German, of Wayland, to advance to all-states. The two-day All-State Tournament, which takes the top-six wrestlers from each divisional tournament, starts Friday at St. John’s Prep in Danvers.
