EASTHAMPTON — Gabby Mercier’s final diving meet is one she will never forget.

The Williston Northampton senior broke NEPSAC Division 2 Championship meet record, winning the 1-meter title with a score of 529.45 points Wednesday.

The score was also a school and conference record.

Williston hosted the event, which included Division 3. Williston’s Jake Goodman won the Division 2 boys title with a score of 329.25.

For Mercier, it was her second straight title.

“It’s a relief definitely,” said Mercier. “It was kind of hard for awhile because going into each meet, you know you have to do better than your last. Knowing that I get to end my high school career in such an amazing way, it’s unbelievable.”

The Granby native was surrounded by teammates and coaches amid her record-breaking performance.

“I can’t even describe it. I knew I was going to have a good day,” said Mercier. “I was feeling the board and the stars were aligned I guess.”

Mercier admitted to added pressure after she placed first last year with a score of 455.45, but it only motivated her to work harder.

“I had some really tough competition last year,” said Mercier, who will compete for Williams in the fall. “But, I knew that coming into this. I just did my best, enjoyed diving and enjoyed my last meet.”

The Division 2 swimming portion will continue on Saturday at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.
