WESTFIELD – Westfield State University went into a lockdown early Monday afternoon as police investigated a report of a “suspicious male” on campus.

The lockdown began at 12:49 p.m. at which time everyone on campus was asked to stay in place until further notice. The Massachusetts State Police and university police completed a building-by-building campus wide sweep and eventually deemed the campus safe. The lockdown was lifted at 2:33 p.m. and an all-clear message issued by WSU, according to Tricia Oliver, a university spokeswoman.

Normal activity resumed on campus and classes were scheduled to resume at 3:10 p.m., according to Oliver.
