The Western Massachusetts Senior All-Star Basketball Games at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame are canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, multiple sources confirmed.
The three games were scheduled for March 19 on the Jerry Colangelo Court of Dreams. There was going to be a Division 3 and 4 boys game, a girls game and a Division 1 and 2 boys game. Only graduating seniors were eligible.
Hampshire Regional’s Dominik Lewinski and South Hadley’s Hunter Carey were selected for the small school boys game. Destiny Calderon from Holyoke, Amherst’s Erin Klaes, Granby’s Nora Young and Amanda Mieczkowski and Jill McGrath of Northampton made the girls team rosters. The large school boys squads included Holyoke’s Jovaughn Smith-Antuna and Jake Brittain of Northampton.
It would have been the 10th annual game recognizing the area’s top players. The Hall of Fame was going to honor a Western Massachusetts Player of the Year for both boys and girls as well.
It’s one of several local high school all-star game halted because of virus concerns. The IAABO Board 28 called off the Hampshire-Franklin All-Star Games on Wednesday. The BABC vs. Western Mass All-Star games scheduled for March 18 at the South End Community Center in Springfield won’t occur.
The PVIAC also canceled its postseason basketball coaches meeting.
