Weekend colleges: Gabrielle Thomas qualifies for NCAAs in 200-meter dash

Harvard junior Gabrielle Thomas qualified for the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships in the 200-meter dash.

The Florence native ran a quarterfinal-best 22.42 seconds, Saturday at South Florida Track & Field Stadium, Tampa, Florida.

Thomas qualified in the 100 dash on Friday.

The championships begin June 6 in Eugene, Oregon.

At the Division III championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Zoe Rubinstein, of Smith College, tied for sixth in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 3½ inches. Katy McClellan was fourth in the javelin, throwing 142-11.

Danielle Griffin, of Amherst College, was fifth in the women’s 800 (2:10.3).

Amherst’s Clark Ricciardell was eight in the men’s 10,000 (31:06.21).


Anya Ivenitsky and Avery Wagman fell in the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Individual Women’s Doubles Tournament, Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, Claremont, California.

The pair fell 6-2, 6-0 to eventual national champions Julia Cancio and Juli Ravenots of Williams College.

In the men’s singles tournament, Amherst’s Sean Wei fell 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 to Jack Katzman, of Claremont Mudd-Scripps.
