A great idea now in its 20th year, Holyoke’s annual "First Night Jr." celebration offers six hours of fun for children on New Year’s Eve day for a single $8 admission fee. Running 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Holyoke Heritage State Park, the event includes admission to the Children's Museum and the Volley Ball Hall of Fame, unlimited rides on the Merry-Go-Round, magic shows by Ed Popielarczyk, a musical performance by Roger Tincknell, world-class juggling with Bill Ross, creation of an ice sculpture by Mike Rondeau, face painting, balloon sculpture and craft activities. There’s even a New York City-style ball drop by Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse, with music from the Holyoke High School Marching Band.

Tickets are on sale at either the Merry-Go-Round or the Children’s Museum at Holyoke. Call 538-9838 or visit holyokemerrygoround.org or childrensmuseumholyoke.org.
