With the game tied at 35 going into the fourth quarter, the Pioneer Valley Regional boys basketball offense came to life.
The visiting Panthers outscored Frontier Regional 17-6 in the final eight minutes of action to pull away for a 52-41 win at Goodnow Gymnasium in South Deerfield on Tuesday.
Pioneer’s Troy Emond and Quinn Grover each finished with 12 points in the win. Sean Richter led Frontier with 12, with Joe Thomson adding 11 points and DJ Dragicevich scoring eight points in the loss.
Girls basketballFrontier 44, Pioneer 21 — Kaitlyn Mackin and Kylie Laford each scored 10 points as the Red Hawks cruised to a 44-21 win in Northfield on Tuesday.
Frontier held an 11-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and the strong defense continued in the second quarter, holding the Panthers to just five points.
“Defensively we didn’t play bad,” Pioneer coach Mike Churchill said. “We just couldn’t put the ball in the hoop.”
Sierra Warren dropped in six points in the win, with Alena Maes-Polan and Abi Howard each scoring four points. Sofia Walker had a season-high nine points for the Panthers in the loss, with Hailey Ring adding four points.
Franklin Tech 47, Hopkins 45 — Kaitlin Trudeau scoring seven points in the fourth and Kendra Campbell knocked down three free throws late to lead Franklin Tech to a 47-45 comeback victory in Hadley on Tuesday.
“Great game to the finish,” lauded Hopkins coach Mike Prattico.
Kasey Earle dropped 19 points in the loss, with Anna Dyjach adding nine points and Chloe Jekanowski scoring seven points. Sara Beauchamp went for six points, six rebounds and six assists, and Tia Fyden tossed in four points and two boards.
Trudeau exploded for 18 points in the game, with Campbell finishing with nine points and Gemanaia Cruz scoring eight points and snatching 12 rebounds.
