Wednesday’s colleges: UMass beats Northeastern at Fenway Park

The UMass baseball team scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to beat Northeastern, 6-5, in the Beanpot consolation game, Wednesday at Fenway Park in Boston.

Mike Geannelis had two hits and three RBIs.

Jon Avallone added two hits.

Casey Aubin picked up the win for UMass (9-21), striking out three in 4⅔2/3 innings.

Softball

UMass 2, Boston College 1 — Kaitlyn Stavinoha had two hits, including the game-winning RBI double in the top of the fifth inning for the Minutewomen.

UMass (20-19) got its first run on a Erin Stacevicz sacrifice fly in the fifth, as well.

Meg Colleran struck out seven and didn’t allow an earned run.

Amherst 9, Keene State 8 (9) — Kate Kopatic hit two home runs and had five RBIs for the Mammoths (23-6).

Springfield 13, Smith 2 — Clelie Fielding and Chloe Harris scored for the Pioneers.

Julia Hamilton had an assist, and Sarah Price made five saves for Smith (8-7, 0-6 NEWMAC).
