WMass wrestling: Hampshire’s Michael Baldwin, Mason Willard earn top seeds in Division 3 tournament

Hampshire Regional senior Michael Baldwin will make history on Saturday with his first win at the Western Massachusetts Division 3 Wrestling Tournament.

Baldwin is tied with Brendan Weir with 181 career victories, the most in school history. He enters the tournament as the defending champion and No. 1 seed at 182 pounds.

Seeds and full brackets will become official at weigh-in on Saturday. Taconic High School in Pittsfield is hosting the tournament, which is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

The top four finishers advance to the State Division 3 Tournament. The fifth-place finisher is an alternate.

Baldwin’s teammate Mason Willard also has a top seed. Willard tops the field at 170 pounds. He placed fifth last season.

At 106, Payton Sladeski, of Frontier Regional, is third with Hampshire’s Adin Clifford fourth.

Cayden Henriques, of South Hadley, is the second seed at 113, while Hampshire’s Alex Willard is third.

Hampshire’s Nathaniel Picard is second at 120.

At 126, Granby’s Joseph Deprey is sixth and Eli Gilbert, of Gateway Regional, is eighth.

At 132, Forrest McSweeney, of Smith Vocational, is fifth with Granby’s Jacob Benson eighth.

South Hadley’s Joe Podolak (second) and Frontier Regional’s Victor McNutt (fifth) are seeded at 138.

Frontier’s Tanner Finch (third) and Granby’s Abram Speek (seventh) are seeded at 145.

Frontier’s Ito McMillan (second), Hampshire’s Max Abel (third), Gateway’s Brett Bonenfant (fourth) and Smith Vocational’s Tyler Prats (sixth) are among the seeds at 152.

At 160, Casey Baldwin, of Smith Vocational, is fourth, while Hampshire’s Bryce Illingsworth is sixth.

James Buddluph (fifth), of Smith Voc., and KC Mattson (eighth), of Frontier, are seeded at 170.

Seeded 4-5-6 at 182 are Race Drobiak (Smith Voc.), Conner Hoffman (Frontier) and Garrett LaBranche (Gateway), respectively. Eddie Glaszcz III is ninth for Granby.

Eli Pietrzykowski, of South Hadley, is sixth at 195. His teammate Noah Will is fourth at 220.

Isaiah Mejias, of Granby, is third at 285.

Division 1

The Western Mass. Division 1 Tournament will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at Springfield Central High School.

Holyoke has three wrestlers seeded.

Moses Oquendo is third at 106, Alex Hernandez is fifth at 145 and Chris Perez is sixth at 195.

Eighth grader Henry Walden is the only seeded wrestler for a young Northampton squad. Walden is sixth at 106.
