On September 4, the First Hampshire District will elect a new State Representative. Our two candidates bring very different platforms and experiences: I urge you to vote for Lindsay Sabadosa. Let me tell you why.

This election is critical to our future. The Massachusetts House of Representatives routinely holds up progress and needs courageous, strong voices.

While the Massachusetts Senate recently passed a bill that would overhaul our chronically underfunded education system and another bill that would make real progress in addressing our climate crisis, the House continues to forgo these types of legislation.

We need a bold representative who will fight for our day-to-day needs and who realizes that ever-growing income inequality is both unsustainable and harmful. This representative is Lindsay Sabadosa. She is ready to form meaningful coalitions and to fight for single payer health care, education reform, climate solutions, and effective public transportation.

As a Northampton School Committee member, I know that Lindsay will be the voice we need for Beacon Hill to address our underfunded education system. Lindsay’s positions and competence are why so many state-level organizations have endorsed her, including: SEIU 509, Mass Alliance, Mass-Care, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense, Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus, Progressive Massachusetts, Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts, NARAL, and the Sierra Club. You can learn more at: www.lindsaysabadosa.com.

Lindsay brings extensive, relevant experience. As an activist and supporter of single-payer health care and women’s reproductive rights, Lindsay has been giving testimony on Beacon Hill and interacting with legislators for years. Until his unfortunate death, Lindsay met regularly with Representative Kocot to work on such issues. In June, Lindsay and I were both delegates at the Democratic Convention in Worcester, where I witnessed several current state legislators tell her that they hope she becomes their colleague. Lindsay will get to work on day one if elected.

I hope you will join me in voting for Lindsay Sabadosa on September 4. We have a rare opportunity to elect a candidate with the skills and desire to move the Massachusetts House toward passing legislation that will help all of us in Hampshire County.
