Calling the Roll

Following is a list of local veterans whose obituaries appeared in the Gazette between Nov. 10 and 21. The information given here about their service is what was provided in each obituary.

George Aaron Snook, 92, Northampton, d. Nov. 4; in 1944, while a student at the University of New Hampshire, George Snook answered his country’s call and joined the United States Army. After serving as a surgical technician in the 165th General Hospital, he volunteered to become a company aid man (medic) in the 45th Division during the invasion of Germany, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Medical Badge.

Stephen S. Sojkowski, 93, Easthampton, d. Nov. 7; he was a World War II veteran and served from May 4, 1943, until he was honorably discharged Dec. 9, 1945. He was a corporal with Company “B” 101st Combat Engineers Battalion in France, Germany and Belgium. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star Medals.

Theodore N. Picard, 97, Hatfield, d. Nov. 9; he was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.

Michael J. Dibrindisi Sr., 83, Florence, d. Oct. 30; he served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard from 1951 to 1960.

Thomas George Hathaway, 72, Florence, d. Nov. 12; he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1967.

Robert “Bob” Farrick, 88, Sun City Center, Florida, formerly Easthampton, d. Nov. 3; he was drafted for the Korean War. Upon joining the U.S. Air Force, Bob was stationed at Sampson Air Force Base in Geneva, New York.

Gordon Lewis Parker, 81, Sebring, Florida, formerly Chesterfield, d. Nov. 14; he served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin crisis in Schwabach, Germany.
