AnnouncementsCHILI COOK OFF – American Legion Post 224, 190 Pleasant St., Easthampton, will hold a chili cook off on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Judging will take place from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Spectators will be able to purchase a book of voting ballots for $5 and winners will be determined by the people’s choice. Proceeds will be donated to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Central Western Massachusetts Health Care Systems in Northampton Chapel. Calling the Roll

Following is a list of local veterans whose obituaries appeared in the Gazette between Jan. 11 and 24. The information given here about their service is what was provided in each obituary.

John “Ed” Hanieski, 88, Hadley, d. Dec. 24; he served his country in the Korean War from 1951-1954 and received the Korean Service Medal with five bronze service stars.
