Flowering Raspberry with Bumblebee

East Hawley Road, Hawley

Photograph and text by Georgette deFriesse

Oh, how I love flowering raspberry plants! So do pollinators. In my yard this summer, their blossoms seemed to be the hands-down favorite of the largest butterfly species. In this photo, however, it is a bumblebee availing herself of the plant's bounty. Flowering raspberries are a native plant with beautiful blossoms, beautiful leaves, no thorns and edible, although extremely bland, fruit. How perfect is that: A feast for the eyes and you don't mind at all if non-human critters feast on the fruit! Made with a handheld DSLR and a medium zoom lens.
