After two nights away from the diamond, the Valley Blue Sox returned with an impressive performance Thursday night.

The club knocked off the Bristol Blues, 4-2, in an NECBL contest at Muzzy Stadium in Bristol, Conn.

The Blue Sox pulled ahead early when Bristol catcher Tyler Keith committed a throwing error that brought Nate Thomas of Joseph’s University home in the first inning. Shortly after, Jack Housinger (Xavier) slid in to steal home as Keith focused on Mason LaPlante (Yale), who was stealing second.

The Sox led 2-0 going into the bottom of the first, with Aaron Hubbell of Belmont University taking the mound for his second start of the season.

Bristol pushed two across in the third inning to tie the game, but the Blue Sox’ Brian Hart, the NECBL’s Player of the Week, started off the fourth with a single. Jonathan Kelly of Xavier University drove him in for his first RBI of the 2021 season, making it a 3-2 game.

Hart got a hit on his first ball of the sixth, stole second and eventually scored on an error to make it 4-2.

Richmond’s Antonio Balducci tossed a scoreless ninth inning to lock down the victory.

Valley head coach Hez Randolph was impressed with his team's play. “I think our pitchers really dug deep,” Randolph said. “Our infielders were, once again, spectacular, and they also made the plays that they needed to. The outfielders had to run balls down, and they delivered. It was a really big win.”

The Blue Sox are right back in action Friday when they host the undefeated Martha’s Vineyard Sharks at 7:05 p.m. at MacKenzie Stadium in Holyoke.
