Matt Murray saved 24 shots to post his first shutout of the season, and the 10th-ranked UMass hockey team beat Quinnipiac 3-0 on the road Friday.

“We had all the pieces that we needed,” UMass coach Greg Carvel said. “That was another consistent 60 minutes. We’re starting to put games together.”

The teams will play the second game of the home-and-home series at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Mullins Center.
