UMass hockey lands 24 players on Hockey East All-Academic Team.

The UMass hockey team finished second in the Hockey East standings on the ice. The Minutemen were runner-up in the classroom as well.

The conference announced Tuesday that a record 183 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the team players had to earn at least a 3.0 GPA in each semester.

UMass Lowell led the way with 26 selections, followed by UMass with 24. Merrimack (22) joined the pair as the only schools with at least 20 all-academic players.

The remaining Hockey East schools were: Maine (19), Vermont (19), Providence (18), UConn (15), Northeastern (13), Boston University (11), Boston College (nine) and New Hampshire (seven).

All-academic players from UMass were: Alex Camarre, Oliver Chau, Jeremy Davidson, Anthony Del Gaizo, Marc Del Gaizo, Eric Faith, Ty Farmer, Colin Felix, Jake Gaudet, Niko Hildenbrand, Bobby Kaiser, Matt Kessel, Cal Kiefiuk, Philip Lagunov, Reed Lebster, John Leonard, Filip Lindberg, Jake McLaughlin, George Mika, Matt Murray, Peyton Reeves, Jack Suter, Bobby Trivigno, Kolby Vegara.

A record 15 players (two goaltenders, four defensemen, and nine forwards) were named to the Hockey East Academic All-Star Team. These players compiled a 4.0 GPA for the year.

Gaudet and Mika represented the Minutemen on the all-star team.

Thirteen players reached “Distinguished Scholar” status, having qualified for the all-academic team in each of four seasons of varsity play. Suter earned this honor for UMass.

Four of the 31 three-time honorees are from UMass: Chau, Hildenbrand, Lagunov and Murray.

Women’s hockey

A record 175 student-athletes were named to the Hockey East Women’s All-Academic Team.

UConn tied Holy Cross with 22 selections.

Williston Northampton had six graduates named all-academic. UConn senior goalie Morgan Fisher is a three-time selection who made the all-academic all-star team this year. Merrimack teammates Julia MacLean and Gabby Jones, New Hampshire teammates Hannah Touzos (three time selection) and Tori Palumbo, and Providence’s Meaghan Rickard all played for the Wildcats.

Deerfield Academy graduate and Holy Cross sophomore Mary Edmonds was named all-academic.

MOVING ON — Northeastern announced the addition of UMass transfer Marco Bozzo. The forward scored two goals over 32 games during his first two seasons for the Minutemen. He was on the roster but did not dress before leaving midway through this past season.
