UMass men’s basketball coach Matt McCall received a one-year extension on Friday, athletic director Ryan Bamford announced.

McCall’s contract runs through the 2022-23 season.

“After just one year at UMass, it is apparent that Matt very quickly changed the trajectory of our basketball program for the better,” Bamford said in a statement released by the school. “I am pleased to return Matt to five years on his contract and reconfirm our commitment to him and the process needed to rebuild our nationally recognized basketball program.”

UMass finished 13-20 last season. The Minutemen had wins over Georgia and Providence, as well as two wins over Dayton in conference play.

Saint Joseph’s 3, UMass 1 — Eddy Hart and Logan Greene each had two hits, but the Minutemen (15-28, 6-17 Atlantic 10) fell on the road.

UMass closes its season Saturday against the Hawks.

Saint Joseph’s College 2, Amherst 1 — Andrew Ferrero struck out six and allowed two runs on five hits over 6⅔ innings for the Mammoths (24-14), who were eliminated from the NCAA Division III Regionals in Albany, New York.

Ariel Kenney had one hit and one RBI for Amherst.
