UMass basketball: Minutewomen halt 2-game skid with 67-58 win over St. Bonaventure

After dropping two games in a row, the UMass women’s basketball team got back to their winning ways on Sunday.

The Minutewomen set the tone on the road early, jumping out to a 21-9 lead after one quarter en route to a 67-58 victory over St. Bonaventure in Atlantic 10 action in Olean, N.Y.

UMass improved to 8-8 overall, 3-2 in the A-10 with the win. The Bonnies dropped to 5-11, 1-4.

Megan Olbrys led the Minutewomen with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Yahmani McKayle went for 14 points, and Chinenye Odenigbo made it three UMass players in double figures as she tallied 12 points to go with seven boards.

UMass’ hot start in the first quarter saw the Minutewomen eventually take a 34-23 halftime lead. The Bonnies got closer with a 22-20 edge in the third quarter, but UMass held the hosts to just 13 points in the fourth quarter to secure the league win.

The Minutewomen won despite shooting just 1-for-10 from 3-point range. The visitors outrebounded the Bonnies by a 40-26 margin, including 19 offensive rebounds, and forced 24 turnovers.

Next up for UMass is a home game against La Salle on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
