HATFIELD — Separate buyers spent a combined $250,000 this week to acquire two properties, taken by the town for non-payment of taxes, at a public auction this week.
A single-family home at 1 King St. was sold for $200,000, while a vacant 2.45-acre lot on Main Street went for $50,000. The buyers also have to pay a 7 percent buyers premium,
“The auction was considered a big success,” said Marianne Sullivan, president of Sullivan & Sullivan Auctioneers LLC of Sandwich, which handled the tax possession public auction Tuesday. “The town is happy to get them back on the tax rolls.”
She added that Hatfield Town Hall, the site of the auction, was a “full house of enthusiastic bidders.”
The 1 King St. site, which is less than an acre, features a 1,344-square-foot, three-bedroom, one-bathroom ranch-style home with a two-car garage. Assessed at $229,800, it was previously owned by Susan and Lisa Skarzynski.
The Main Street land is immediately north of an existing home at 176 Main St. and is assessed at $133,100. That property was also owned by Susan and Lisa Skarzynski.
Sullivan said she can’t disclose the names of the buyers until the sales transactions are completed.
