Tuesday’s high schools: Gewanters boost Frontier baseball in extra innings

Kade Gewanter singled home Connor Waitkus to give the Frontier Regional baseball a 7-6 win over host Palmer in 11 innings on Tuesday.
Seth Gewanter pitched four innings of relief for the victory. He gave up four hits, struck out one and didn’t allow a run.
Kalen Evans was on base five times for Frontier (2-1) with two hits. Evans walked twice and got hit by a pitch.
Lee 11, Gateway 4 Regional — Brett Turban went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI triple for the Gators (1-3).
Granby 14, Tantasqua 2; Granby 12, Monson 8 — Joe Bessette totaled seven RBIs on five hits, as the Rams won twice at Tantasqua’s tournament.
Noah Bleakley struck out eight against Tantasqua and had two RBIs.
Ben Rokowski hit two triples and three RBIs for the Rams (3-2) against Monson.
Chicopee 8, South Hadley 0 — Nehemiah Wilson and David Adams each singled twice for the Tigers (2-1).

Smith Vocational 9, McCann Tech 6 — Matt Hewes had a big day for the Vikings out of the leadoff spot, reaching base four times. He scored three runs and also pitched in relief.
Hunter Brooks pitched four innings and got the win for Smith Voke (2-1). Jack O’Connell relieved Hughes to pick up the final two outs and the save.
Northampton 4, Chicopee Comp 0 — Anna Kerwood struck out eight in a two-hit shutout at home.
Zoe Driscoll-Sbar fell a double shy of the cycle. She hit a solo home run in the first inning and added a triple and a single for Northampton (5-1).
Hampshire Regional 20, Belchertown 6 (5) — Brielle Bergeron launched a home run and totaled six RBIs in the Raiders’ road win.
Danielle McGan added four RBIs of her own, and Brooke Kavanaugh had three.
Paige Sullivan scored three runs and drove in two of them.
Alana Mohan struck out nine batters and walked just two for Hampshire (4-0).
Lauren LeBlanc drove in two runs for Belchertown (1-4).
Hannah Sugrue and Delaney O’Brien had two hits each for the Orioles.
Pioneer Valley 7, Frontier 5 — Sarah Meunier went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Red Hawks (0-2).
Franklin Tech 11, Smith Vocational 6 — Serenity Roznovski had two RBIs and Cassidy Colarusso had two hits in the Vikings’ home loss.
Samantha Von Haugg struck out 13 for Smith Voke (3-2, 3-1 Tri-County).
Mahar 13 Hopkins Academy 6 — Gabby Palmisano had an RBI double for the Golden Hawks (2-2), and Macy Ring singled twice.
Longmeadow 21, South Hadley 5 (5) — Despite three hits, two runs and an RBI by Emilee Ottomaniello, the Tigers fell in five innings.
Westfield 25, Amherst 1 (5) — Megan Rice struck out 13 and had the lone extra-base hit for the Hurricanes (0-3) in the home loss.
Belchertown 23, St. Mary 4 — Adam Wordsworth tallied 12 points on four goals and eight assists in the Orioles’ first win of the year.
Ray Langevin led the way with five goals, while Nate Pacheco added three goals and five assists, and Grant Irving picked up three goals and four assists.
Otwn Palmateer had two goals and an assist, while Jaxon Royal scored twice.
Ben Laliberte and Jack Filipelli each totaled a goal and an assist, while Nick Makkiya found the net.
Aidan Lyons made 12 saves for Belchertown (1-3, 1-1 Suburban).
Granby 8, McCann Tech 4 — Cory Hinkley and Drew Weisel (assist) both had hat tricks for the Rams in a road win.
Doug Labbee added three assists, and Phil Roberts had one. Mitchell Labbee had two goals and an assist for Granby (2-3).
Ryan Walz made 10 saves.
Belchertown 3, Smith Vocational 0 — The Orioles swept the Vikings 25-16, 25-11, 25-21.
Tyler Top had two blocks, seven digs, two aces and eight kills for Smith Voke.
Eric Stolz added six digs and five kills, while Malcolm Reyes-Stoneham had a block, seven digs, four assists and a kill in defeat.
