Thanks Southampton for hurricane relief support

When tragedy strikes as it recently did with multiple hurricanes, those who are far from the disaster wish to offer support.

Thanks to the leadership of Kathy Marks, minister of music at the First Congregational Church of Southampton, UCC, residents in the area were given an opportunity to perform and donate to aid in the hurricane relief effort.

Rhythms for Relief was a great success, as 21 musical groups performed for 2½ hours on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Oct. 1. Performers ranged from kindergartners to senior citizens, representing musical styles across the spectrum: folk, rock, choral, a cappella, and more. Over 200 attendees enjoyed the concert.

A disaster ministries representative offered a presentation about the aftermath of natural disasters. The Boy Scouts staffed and supplied a delicious bake table. Local businesses sponsored the concert, including Party Patrol Rentals in Southampton, Big Y World Class Market and Northampton Rental Center.

Together, we stood in solidarity with those who were directly affected by the hurricanes of September. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, over $3,500 was collected.

It is a joy and a pleasure to be part of such a loving, caring community. Thanks, Southampton.
