EASTHAMPTON — The City Council will meet Wednesday night, a week after a meeting last week was postponed by a powerful storm that caused widespread power outages.

“It really would have been an exercise in futility,” City Council President Peg Conniff said of last week’s meeting.

The agenda for this week’s meeting, to be held over Zoom, will be the same, Conniff said.

Some of the items on the agenda are a proposed ban on single-use plastics and a proposed change to the law that would allow cannabis cultivation, research and development in new buildings in the Highway Business Zoning District.

Residents were informed of the cancellation via email, phone and Facebook.

Conniff, in her third term as a councilor, said that she never before has seen a meeting canceled, and attributed the cancellation to the meeting being held remotely.

“If we were meeting in City Hall we probably would have had the meeting,” Conniff said.

She did say, however, that she’s heard of cancellations prior to her tenure.
