HOLYOKE — A local woman was arrested on assault and battery charges after she allegedly stabbed several people on Main Street early Sunday morning, police said.

Officers arrested Katherine Vazquez, 28, after witnessing an altercation at the Racing Mart gas station at around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Officers allegedly found Vazquez “yelling, making threats, and walking with a knife in her hand,” the department said in a release. “Officers drew their weapons and ordered Vazquez to drop the knife. Vazquez ignored the officers’ orders and walked away from the officers.”

Police say Vazquez directed her threats at a group of women, eventually putting the knife in her pocket before police arrested her. Police later found the group of women, who had driven away, and discovered “multiple stabbing victims” in the car.

Police said the stab wounds appeared to be non-life threatening, and they escorted the vehicle to the Holyoke Medical Center.”

Vazquez was charged with three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
