Springfield man who allegedly sexually assaulted minors arrested at Hadley hotel

HADLEY — A Springfield man who has allegedly sexually assaulted minors was arrested after being located at a Route 9 hotel in Hadley on Monday morning, according to Springfield Police.

Angel Soto, 44, was arrested at 9:45 a.m. around 200 Russell St. on a warrant from Springfield District Court and a warrant from Chicopee District Court, police said in a news release.

The Springfield warrant charges Soto with seven counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, five counts of aggravated rape of a child with a 10-year age difference, two counts of rape of a child under 16 with force, three counts of indecent exposure and two counts of providing obscene matter to a minor, as well as one count each of aggravated rape of a child with a five-year age difference, assault to rape a child, open and gross lewdness, selling or delivering liquor to a minor, furnishing marijuana to a person under 21 and witness intimidation.

The Chicopee warrant charges Soto with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, subsequent offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and speeding.

Soto was taken into custody by members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force

Springfield Police detectives assigned to the Special Victims Unit, under the direction of Capt. Trent Duda, have been investigating Soto after a sexual assault was reported, an investigation began and additional victims came forward, leading to the application for and granting of a warrant for his arrest.
