The UMass baseball and softball teams both dropped their Atlantic 10 conference openers Friday.
The softball team left the tying runs on in the bottom of the seventh and fell to Fordham, 5-3, in New York.
Taylor Carbone led UMass (6-17, 0-1 A-10) with three hits, a run and an RBI, while Olivia Godin added two hits.
Meg Colleran took the loss and fell to 5-11. She allowed nine hits and two walks while striking out five. All five runs were earned.
The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m.
BaseballDavidson 10, UMass 2 — The Minutemen gave up six runs in the second inning and never recovered as they fell in North Carolina.
Mike Hart, Jon Avallone and Cooper Mrowka each had two hits for UMass, which fell to 3-9 (0-1 A-10).
Junior Ryan Moloney gave up eight runs (seven earned) in 6 innings and took the loss. The teams play a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m.
