Jericho Sylla turned in his shortest long jump of the season on the biggest stage.

The Amherst Regional senior leaped 20 feet, 3¾ inches at New Balance Nationals Indoor Championships on Friday in New York.

It placed him 23rd of 27 competitors in the boys emerging elite division.

Eric Burns of Culver Academies (Indiana) topped the field at 22-10.5.

Sylla finished fourth at the New England Championships with a jump of 21-6¾ on Feb. 28 and won the Massachusetts All-State title at 21-10½ on Feb. 20.

A jump in that range would have placed in the top 10 on Friday.

South Hadley senior Alex Dragon competed in the emerging elite high jump.

Dragon did not clear the opening height of 5-11¼. He was one of 33 jumpers in the field.
