SOUTH HADLEY — When voters head to the polls for town elections on Tuesday, those who live in Fire District 1 will have another election to vote in — a two-person race for a seat on the district’s Prudential Committee.

Voters in Fire District 1 are able to vote at the district’s fire station at 144 Newton St. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The two candidates running for the position are Jeff Millard and Kenneth Beliveau.

Beliveau was a firefighter in East Hartford, Conn., for 35 years. He is also the fire marshal in East Granby, Conn., where he is also emergency management director.

“I’m not running inside to put the fire out anymore,” he said. “But I can use my knowledge and my experience to help look at what the town needs for fire service.”

Millard has worked for finance companies, and is a member of Town Meeting and of several boards, including the Gaylord Memorial Library trustees.

“These experiences will help me to effectively support the mission of Fire District No. 1 by helping to further refine its goals, effectively plan its future and ensure its legal and ethical integrity as a fully engaged member of the Prudential Committee,” Millardsaid in a statement.

The Prudential Committee is made up of three members, each serving a three-year term. The body oversees the district’s financial affairs.

A street listing for the district can be found online on the district’s website.
