AMHERST — Independent state Rep. Solomon Goldstein-Rose has announced he will seek a second term representing the 3rd Hampshire District, consisting of Amherst, Pelham, and precinct 1 of Granby.

Among his accomplishments, Goldstein-Rose cited introduction of an energy jobs bill, which he said is the first state bill that includes carbon pricing to ever received bipartisan cosponsorship; passage of a civics education bill; and securing $50,000 to study battery testing equipment and promote clean energy industries in western Massachusetts.

“In the last year and a half, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to work with wonderful colleagues and constituents,” Goldstein-Rose said in a statement announcing his re-election bid. “I have learned an immense amount about local organizations, technicalities of regional systems, and the process of the Massachusetts House. I hope to have the chance to continue advancing system change and serving constituents in a second term.”

Goldstein-Rose, 24, first campaigned for the seat in 2016 on a platform highlighting education, climate change, and civic engagement.

In response to what he saw as the gridlock and divisiveness of the national two-party system, he changed his party registration from Democrat to nonpartisan earlier this year. As a nonpartisan candidate, Goldstein-Rose will collect nomination signatures on the same timeline as any other candidate and will appear only on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.

He said his campaign will involve canvassing and small group conversations to engage people with state government systems, explain how the process works, and promote his track record.
