EASTHAMPTON — A single-car crash into a telephone pole closed Holyoke Street between East Green and Spring streets for an estimated eight hours on Thursday.
According to Easthampton Police Sgt. Chad Alexander, the driver of a Honda Pilot was looking down at their GPS when they struck a telephone pole in front of 45 Holyoke St. at about 7:25 a.m. The angle at which the driver struck the pole caused the vehicle to spin out and roll over on its side.
Alexander said the driver was not injured. No citation has been issued at this time.
Because the pole had a transformer on it that leaked, the clean-up effort took several hours in the afternoon.
By 12:45 p.m., crews from Eversource and Verizon were on scene with a new pole. Three or four homes went without power.
