Western Mass. Track: Looking at top seeds heading into Div. 1, Div. 2 championship meets

Local outdoor track and field athletes will have to brave the elements during this weekend’s Western Massachusetts Championship meets, as the cold, rainy weather is expected to stick around. 

Holyoke High School will host the Division 1 championships on Friday, where Amherst, Northampton and the Purple Knights will compete. Events are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

Then on Saturday, South Hadley, Belchertown, Easthampton, Frontier and Hampshire will compete at Mount Greylock for the Division 2 championships. It’ll be a morning start for these athletes as the meet is set to begin at 9:30 a.m.

Here are the list of Hampshire County athletes who earned a top five seed in their respective events:

Division 1 field events

Girls long jump: No. 1 Claire Fortin, Amherst; No. 2 Juliana Albo, Amherst

Girls triple jump: No. 1 Claire Fortin, Amherst; No. 5 Ella Hoogendyk, Northampton

Boys shot put: No. 1 Logan Alfandari, Amherst
