Finds Northampton roundabout unappealing

I laud the city’s efforts at turning Pleasant Street into the “gateway” to Northampton.

In widening its sidewalks, paving the road, and turning the old Northampton Lumber Co. into a mixed-use structure, the city is heading toward the right direction in making the street more attractive to residents and visitors alike.

But, I don’t understand why the roundabout as commuters come into the city off Exit 18 of Interstate 91 looks neglected and unappealing. Other roundabouts in Easthampton, Hadley and Amherst have some form of landscaping or design.

How come Northampton’s — which is the first thing that visitors encounter who are entering the city from I-91 and passing through Pleasant Street — doesn’t?
