NORTHAMPTON — Hundreds of people are expected to rally on Main Street in Northampton on Saturday in defense of reproductive rights.

After the march, attendees will hear from 11 speakers at City Hall, including local politicians, physicians, professors and high school students. Deborah Pastrich-Klemer, the event’s organizer and a volunteer with Valley Women’s March, described the speakers as “a really diverse group.”

The march is one of more than 600 similar events happening this Saturday across the country organized by Women’s March. The rallies come as the U.S. Supreme Court is slated to begin oral arguments on the abortion rights case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization on Dec 1.

“People are pretty heated about the situation,” Pastrich-Klemer said, referring to “escalating attacks” on reproductive rights in the United States.

The event in Northampton will run from noon to 1:30 p.m., and all attendees are expected to wear masks and maintain physical distancing.
