SOUTH DEERFIELD — Relay For Life of Franklin County’s fall rally is back for another year, this time with a new name.

Rallyfest, as it is now called, will be held Saturday starting at 6:30 p.m. at Yankee Candle’s flagship store, located at 25 Greenfield Road, according to a Relay For Life press release.

A fall rally was held for the first time last year in hopes of getting more community members involved in the annual cancer fundraiser. The event gave attendees the chance to share fundraising ideas while learning about Relay For Life, American Cancer Society research and programs the relay benefits, and ways to reduce their risk of cancer.

“It’s definitely something that gets people in the mood for relay fundraising earlier,” American Cancer Society Staff Partner Andrew Paterno said. However, the season also has an annual kickoff in January.

Relay For Life, an international event in which participants take turns walking around a track to show support for those who have been affected by cancer, is the world’s largest fundraising event to fight cancer. In 2017, Relay For Life of Franklin County alone raised over $226,000, Paterno said, beating organizers $225,000 goal. The 2018 fundraising goal is $230,000.

This year’s Rallyfest will be a bit different, Paterno said.

“This year, we’re adding the component of celebrating 2017,” he said. “It is both a celebration of the relay we just did and gearing up for the next one.”

The event, the release states, will provide an opportunity to wrap up the 2017 relay season which ended on Aug. 31, with awards, recognition and final results, before kicking off the 2018 relay fundraising season which began on Sept. 1.

Paterno said new fundraising opportunities will be revealed, and laptops will be available so attendees can sign up their teams for 2018’s Relay For Life.

Rallyfest will also feature raffles, 30 percent discounts on Yankee Candle shopping and 10 percent discounts on Au Bon Pain meals. The release states attendees will receive coupons at the formal program’s end at 7:15 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to park in the north parking lot and enter through the Yankee Home side of the store.

According to the release, the program will be held in the central courtyard.
