The Greatest Generation is gradually tucking into the earth.

Many used guns and mortars,

not for grudges

or fifteen minutes of fame

but to defend the dignity

of human beings,

all of us

those at the top

those at the bottom

those in between

and to reach for a world

of “we the people”

that can embody

wisdom, love and generosity.

The Greatest Generation

enabled us

to reach new heights

We’ve slipped back.

Time to climb again

but without guns and mortars
