NORTHAMPTON — Police are looking for a man who allegedly smashed the windows of five different motor vehicles Sunday morning.

Northampton Police said they responded to Bright Street shortly after midnight for a report of a young man hitting vehicles with a hammer.

The windows of three vehicles were smashed on Bright Street. Two other vehicles, one on King Street and another on Trumbull Road, also had smashed windows, and police believe the same person is responsible for the vandalism.

Police interviewed one witness who said he followed the man on foot, who turned to him at one point and said, “I have a hammer.”

Two other witnesses corroborated that witness’ account, according to police. One of these witnesses said that the suspect took off running toward King Street.

A K-9 unit was called in from Hadley but was not able to locate the suspect.

The suspect was described by one witness as young, clean-shaven, with dark hair. He was wearing a black shirt, dark pants and light-colored satchel, a witness told police.
