AMHERST — Police officers responded to an East Pleasant Street home early on Easter Sunday after getting a 911 call about a woman who had chopped off her fingers.

But the officers quickly determined that there was no accident and that the call was just part of an April Fools’ Day prank a mother and father were playing on their children.

Officers went to the home at 8:07 a.m. in response to the 911 call. Once there, officers discovered that as part of the father’s role to scare the children, he was supposed to pretend to dial 911, rather than calling the real emergency line.

No one was injured, police said, and members of the family agreed that they made a bad decision in organizing the joke.
