WESTHAMPTON – A man was trapped underneath a rolled over tractor on North Road Tuesday afternoon.

Westhampton Fire Department Captain Dave Antosz, who is the department’s incoming chief, said that the department received a call at approximately 12:30 p.m. that a tractor had rolled over and the operator was pinned underneath it near the town library.

Antosz said the timing of the call, around lunchtime, and that a number of people had the day off from work, meant that “response was actually very quick.”

Westhampton is a volunteer department. Massachusetts State Police and Pioneer Valley EMS also responded to the incident.

Upon arriving on the scene,  Antosz said that they found that the tractor had gone over a ledge and that the operator’s leg was trapped under it.  He also said that the tractor, which he described as a compact model, was able to be moved enough to free the man.

“He seemed to be OK,” Antosz said.

Antosz also said that the man declined to go to the hospital, although an ambulance was there.

At the scene, the operator refused to give a comment to the Gazette, before driving off in a Jeep.
