AMHERST — A pickup truck struck and damaged a bus stop shelter downtown Sunday at 9:38 p.m., according to Amherst Police.
The incident occurred on North Pleasant Street near the U.S. post office.
Neither police nor the Northwestern district attorney’s office would specify whether there were any injuries as a result of the incident, though several media reports stated that a person who was in the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority shelter was seriously injured and transported to a hospital by Amherst Fire Department ambulance.
The investigation is ongoing, said Mary Carey, spokeswoman for the district attorney, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Amherst Police Department or Massachusetts State Police.
On Monday morning, the shelter was gone from the site, and several orange cones were on the sidewalk where the shelter was located. A portion of the metal fence that surrounds a small yard in front of the post office remained on the ground.
Buses continued to stop at the location on Monday.
Carey said additional information about the crash would be released Tuesday.
