  • Cynthia Tian, 12, and her father, Yong Tian, of Amherst ended their 50-meter sprint in a virtual tie as they took advantage of an empty Lot 22 at the University of Massachusetts Amherst on Friday afternoon. Cynthia, a seventh grader at the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School, swims butterfly for the Amherst Tritons, so the two figured a little cross training might be wise before the team’s upcoming meet at Belchertown. AMHERST – Cynthia Tian, 12, and her father, Yong Tian, of Amherst, ran several sprints across an empty Lot 22 at the University of Massachusetts on Friday. Cynthia, a seventh grader at the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School, swims butterfly for the Amherst Tritons so the two figured a little cross-training couldn’t hurt before the team’s upcoming meet at Belchertown.
