HADLEY — Phil, a white and orange male cat, is still at large, after escaping from a Hadley pet boarder on May 24.

“We go out every day,” said owner Roger Menard, of Belchertown.

Phil, whom Menard described as an “escape artist,” escaped from Wagging Tails Pet Resort, located at 220 Russell St., on May 24 after a window was left open, according to Menard.

“I understand accidents happen,” said Menard, who nevertheless expressed displeasure with the conduct of Wagging Tails.

Menard said that Wagging Tails told him they would contact the town’s animal control officer in a telephone call on the day of Phil’s escape, but did not.

“We had to call Animal Control,” he said

Hadley Animal Control Officer Kyle Dragon said that he was first contacted about Phil by Menard on Monday, May 28, via Facebook.

Dragon said that he and Menard remained in constant contact and discussed methods for locating Phil, all of which have proven unsuccessful so far.

One of those methods was the use of traps, which Dragon said have remained untouched.

“Too much time went by,” said Menard.

Chris Pratt, the owner of Wagging Trails Pet Resort, declined to comment on Phil’s disappearance.

Menard said that he and his wife Michelle boarded Phil, another cat and three English mastiffs with Wagging Tails, for the duration of their visit to Florida, to which they plan on moving on June 29. He also said that no refund has been given to them for Phil from Wagging Tails as of yet.

Menard described Phil as being friendly and having a “very” symmetrical face. He also said that there is a cat on Burke Way in Hadley that looks like Phil but is not him.

Anyone with information on Phil should call Menard at 413-265-9269. A reward is being offered.
