Easthampton man struck, killed by car in South Hadley

SOUTH HADLEY — A 29-year-old Easthampton man has died after being hit by a car early Friday morning in the northbound lane of Route 202, according to the Northwestern district attorney's office.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was transported from the scene of the crash and died at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, the DA's office said in a press release.

The man was struck at around 3:18 a.m., according to police, closing the northbound lanes of the Purple Heart Drive section of Route 202 between Granby Road and the Muller Bridge roundabout. The lanes were reopened at 7:47 a.m.

The driver remained at the scene, according to the DA’s office, and the incident is currently under investigation.

South Hadley Police, state police assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, and state police from the MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section responded to the incident.
