AMHERST — A project to resurface a section of North East Street between Main and Strong streets will begin Tuesday.

Crews from Warner Brothers of Sunderland will be on site from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. reclaiming the road, meaning that the asphalt will be removed and gravel will be graded. In addition, an asphalt injection will be used to create a new stable sub-base for the road.

Initial reclaiming is expected to take three to five days, with paving taking place at a later date.

Delays are possible and commuters are encouraged to use alternate routes. No on-street parking will be allowed for the duration of the project.

At the same time in downtown Amherst, North Pleasant Street between McClellan and Triangle streets, adjacent to Kendrick Park, will be closed between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. both Tuesday and Wednesday for the Department of Public Works to install a new fire hydrant.

On-street parking in front of 284 and 290 North Pleasant St. will not be allowed those days.
